Day out at the Races anyone?

Published: Tue, 29th June 2010, 12:00:00 AM
We've been given the opportunity to make the exit collection at Newbury Race Course - collecting from racegoers as they walk out of the grandstands and other main areas of the racecourse grounds. However for much of the afternoon, our volunteers can watch the racing and enjoy the event. We can even access a private box in the Grandstand to use as a base for the day. The main exit collection time will be 16:20 to 17:35. The first race is at 13:30 and the last race is at 17:25. The gates open to the public at 11:30. TOFS Vice-chair and trustee John Pearce will be there all day on our TOFS stand and educate the racegoing public a little so that they are more inclined to donate at the end of the day. The route to the course is well signposted and the course is relatively central in Newbury. There is a station at the Racecourse: two trains an hour from Reading on race days. There's no problem bringing children, as long as they're supervised by their parents at all times, but they can help with the collecting buckets. Please get in touch with Diane at the TOFS office as soon as possible if you think you can help in any way - tel: 0115 961 3092.
