It's Remember a Charity Week

Published: Mon, 6th September 2021, 11:58:00 AM

“Remember A Charity” Week is a great opportunity for you to consider leaving a gift to charity in your will.

As you may know, TOFS receives no government funding and relies entirely on members' donations, voluntary donations and other sources of charitable income to fund our activities.

We have been fortunate to receive a number of legacy gifts from our supporters over the years. These gifts have enabled us to undertake additional projects such as creating and publishing “The TOF Book” and “Soft Food Recipe Book”; increasing our support team; developing the website; and planning our own TOFS app. These projects may not have happened without the generous support of our donors.

It is reported that about one in six UK wills include a gift to charity.  And it isn’t unusual to find that well-known charities receive a fifth to a third of their income every year from such gifts.  Over the past 10 years, it averages about 10% in the case of TOFS.

How to get more information on making a will

The website rememberacharity.org.uk includes a lot of information about making wills: a comprehensive online guide to the process; answers to loads of possible questions; and links to a discounted will-writing service with Co-op legal services and a free online service via Bequeathed.org

If you are considering making or updating a will, perhaps you could – once family and loved ones are looked after – include TOFS as one of the charities you would like to help.

Every gift, large or small, makes a huge difference to us and will help us continue to support people born unable to swallow for many more years to come.
