Greg Ryan receives prestigious Order of Australia

Greg Ryan, Founder & Executive Officer of the ONE in 5000 Foundation, has received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). Greg was honoured for his work supporting those affected by the congenital condition Anorectal Malformation (ARM) / Imperforate Anus (IA) which is part of the VACTERL association that affects some born with OA/TOF.

The Order of Australia Medal (OAM) is a prestigious recognition bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated outstanding contributions and service to the nation. Established in 1975, the OAM is the highest level of honour that can be granted to citizens. It represents not only excellence in a particular field but also a deep commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Greg said, “It’s hard to put into words how humbled and proud I feel about sharing the news that I have been bestowed the incredible honour of receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division for service to community health in the Kings Birthday Honours list, 12th June 2023, by the Governor General of Australia.

To all the wonderful people in the global ARM/AI community, I can’t thank you all enough for your support as we continue to grow our community and make people feel like they aren’t alone and have people to support them who totally “get it.”

The most important thing to me is that this honour gives due recognition to those of us born with Imperforate Anus/Anorectal Malformation and their family and friends, and our ONE in 5000 global community.”

We shared Greg’s story of living with ARM/IA at our interactive adult OA/TOF virtual seminar which you can watch here.
