The governance of TOFS is the responsibility of the board of trustees. This board, called the Council of Management, (CoM) is made up of ten trustees, who are also directors of the charity. They are from diverse backgrounds in the public and private sector, and bring a wealth of experience to running our charity.
Trustees receive no remuneration. They all have a personal connection with the condition(s), either as parents, grandparents, or adults born with OA/TOF. Trustees have overall responsibility for ensuring we deliver our charitable mission and spend our money wisely. They are accountable and legally responsible for our work, and for ensuring that all aspects of the management and work comply with current legislation.
The Council is supported by five members of staff, headed by the CEO, and by volunteers.
CoM typically meets four times per annum, and delegates to several sub-committees (finance; pastoral support; medical liaison; staffing; strategy and projects; publications) and working groups which report to sub-committees, (fundraising, conference and adult TOF). These sub-committees and working groups are chaired by either a trustee or the CEO, and may be attended by those with special interest amongst the wider TOFS membership.
Being a trustee is about much more than attending board meetings. Trustees add value in many different ways, helping to bring different perspectives and challenge as well a their professional expertise, and experience of the OA/TOF condition.
Hon Presidents, Christine and Gren Shepherd
In 2011 long-standing trustees Gren and Christine Shepherd stood down from their role, after being involved with TOF for 25 years, and in honour of their tremendous commitment to TOFS, they were given a life-time non-executive role as our honorary presidents. We are very grateful for their continued involvement and support.
